Warning: Spoliers of Ozark Season 3 in article

The Byrde family’s time in the Missouri Ozarks—and on Netflix—is drawing to a close. But first, Ozark will return to Netflix to complete the tale in its fourth and final season, which will be split into two parts.

Marty and Wendy had attempted (and failed) to keep their personal and professional lives separate from the beginning of Ozark, and season 3 found them in their most difficult scenario yet when Wendy’s younger brother Ben arrived in town. Loyalties were challenged, sides were swapped (how could you, Ruth?! ), and loved ones died, all leading to an unexpected conclusion: Navarro (Marty’s irritable boss and cartel’s head honcho) picked the Byrdes against Helen. What does this mean for Marty, Wendy, and their children, Charl0tte and Jonah? Here’s all we know about Ozark’s fourth and final season.

When will Ozark season 4 premiere?

Ozark Season 4 Part 1 will broadcast on January 21, 2022, and will consist of seven episodes. Part 2, which will include seven further episodes, will be released at a later date to be determined.

Netflix revealed in June that the final season of Ozark would have a new format, with 14 episodes altogether but split into two halves. “An extra-large season equals extra-large issues for the Byrdes. In a statement, Jason Bateman, who plays protagonist Marty Byrde, stated, “I’m delighted to end with a bang(s).”

To keep the set and the workers safe, Bateman, who works as an executive producer on the show and has directed multiple episodes, told IndieWire that he is unlikely to return to the director’s chair for the final season.

“As normal, I was going to do the first two episodes, but as we were looking through the protocols, the guidelines, all the complications with COVID, [and] the producer side of me made me think it’s just not responsible to have one of the actors direct the first two, given that we’re still going to be getting our perimeter safe,” Bateman said. “Because if one of the actors gets sick, we all have to go home for weeks. If one of the crew members gets sick — while I’m making sure their salary is protected while they’re in quarantine — we can hire a replacement. So it just didn’t seem smart for me to [direct] the first two [episodes].”

Is there a trailer yet?

On October 19, Netflix released the first teaser for Ozark season 4, part 1. Bateman narrates, “Money is, at its heart, the measure of a man’s choices.” “Today is a fresh start,” he adds.

Netflix released a second teaser on November 17 with the tagline “No ending is reached by accident.”

On January 6, 2022, we finally got a complete trailer, and it’s a doozy. The most incisive interaction occurs between Marty and Ruth, when Marty advises Ruth not to kill herself. She responds, “Like you fucking care.” Take a look at the video below.

What characters will return to season 4?

We know Helen (Janet McTeer) is out of the picture for good, thanks to the dramatic season 3 conclusion. Will Erin (played by Madison Thompson), Charlotte’s friend, return to avenge her mother’s death by blowing up the Byrdes’ cover?

Following a feud with the Byrdes in Season 3, Ruth (Julia Garner) joined her cousin Wyatt Lang on the Snells’ side, thus it’s safe to assume Ruth, Wyatt, and Darlene Snell have some unfinished business with Marty and Wendy.

Bateman, Emmy Award® Winner Laura Linney, Garner, Sofia Hublitz, Skylar Gaertner, Charlie Tahan, Jessica Frances Dukes, Lisa Emery, Felix Solis, Damian Young, Alfonso Herrera, Adam Rothenberg, John Bedford Lloyd, Joseph Sikora, Bruno Bichir, CC Castillo, Bruce Davison, Ali Stroker, and Veronica Falcón are among the season 4 cast members confirmed by Netflix.

With Helen gone for good, what happens to Marty and Wendy?

Helen, who acted as a go-between for the Byrdes and Navarro, was killed in the season three finale’s last moments. Will Marty and Wendy take on Helen’s Navarro cartel responsibilities? Ozark showrunner Chris Mundy stated to EW why the Byrdes are far more significant to Navarro than Helen in an interview.

As good as Helen is, there’s other lawyers in the world. But Wendy and Marty have now pulled off two impossibilities for him,” Mundy explained. “One is getting a casino to launder through in the first place, which is sort of the holy grail of money laundering. And the second is that, at least in Navarro’s mind, their claim that they have the FBI on their side and can swing the power of the U.S. government in the intervention in the drug war against their rivals, that’s something virtually no one else can do, and that essentially tipped the scales for Marty and Wendy.
